Did you know....
If your dog is scooting (dragging the butt around the carpet or grass), chances are she has a problem with anal glands. Vets can relieve the pain and itching by expressing these glands and dog groomers will if you ask them, but to PREVENT and relieve the problem the natural way, feed your pup a teaspoon of pumpkin with every meal. Just buy the packed pumpkin used for making pies and be sure to keep refrigerated once you open the can. Anal gland problems can lead to serious infection and illness.
Dogs can get yeast candida too! It causes terrible itching, paw licking and other allergy symptoms.
Avoid treats that contain wheat, isolated white rice, potatoes or corn meal. (check treat labels as many of them contain these ingredients)
Give plain (no sugar added) yogurt to your dog for a treat. It will help and they love it!
Bathing 1-2 times weekly with medicated shampoo can help tremendously. Leave the shampoo on for 10-15 minutes before final rinse. They enjoy a good massage during this time.
To relieve itching try spraying original flavor Listerine on itchy rashy areas. Avoid raw places that might sting. Another remedy is mixing 2-4 teaspoons of baking soda into a gallon of water to use for the final shampoo rinse. Or mix up an 8 ounce spray bottle of water with 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda for a spot spray.
It takes at least 3-4 weeks to eliminate candida completely and during treatment your dog may have flu-like symptoms.
Seek Veternary care for possible bacterial infections if your pet has bitten or scratched until bleeding.
